My initial thought was of a bunch of flowers, which led to Bouquet and then romance as flowers are often given as a term of love and how often you see (unimaginative);) men on Valentines Day carrying a single Rose or bunch of, and finally the album of the same title ‘The Flowers of Romance by PIL (Public Image Limited)</image:caption>

<image:caption>See Awards The Blood Red Game is a book by the Science Fiction writer, Michael Moorcock. I remember reading it back in the early 70's when it came out. Can't recall the story but have a vague recollection of the book cover, a man walking down a path against the backdrop of a 'Blood' red sky full of eyes. The power of the unconscious to connect a memory from the past to something I'm looking at in the present.</image:caption>

<image:title>ArtCity - Early Artist Sketch of Early Man or Undiscovered Francis Bacon?</image:title>
<image:caption>I was thinking what would early artist sketches look like? We’ve seen cave drawings, and they are very simplistic, so presumably an early portrait would be similar, without much detail? Equally this also reminds me of a Francis Bacon image in the making. The beauty of abstract images is they can be whatever your mind wants and allows. Indeed, it encourages the minds expression.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The 'Corridor of Uncertainty' in cricket describes the area outside the batsman's off stump, where choosing to play or leave the ball risks losing their wicket. Viewing this image first gave me a positive feeling, but over time doubt—like the 'Corridor of Uncertainty'—emerged, echoing tensions common among creatives. A quote from Kurt Vonnegut, "To practise any art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow. So do it," helped me overcome that doubt.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Is a reference to the Catholic Church's influence on a young child. They taught, in my interpretation in the 50's and 60's, Hellfire and Damnation and the fear of going to Hell if I wasn't a 'good boy.' They did literally, put the fear of God up me! They embedded me with Guilt and Shame. In reality it was they who should have carried the Guilt and Shame, of the many scandals that have surfaced over the years of child abuse inflicted by their own clergy and how senior figures, including the Pope tried to put a 'veil' over them in the hope that the scandals would disappear.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Neglect - It's A Thin Line Between Love and Hate</image:title>
<image:caption>Is the title of a song that several musicians recorded. It also brought to mind a book ‘I Hate You Don’t Leave Me’ by J Kreisman and Hal Straus, the book is about, borderline personality disorder and those who suffer with it, of which I’m one. One of the characteristics is rapid mood swings and polarised thinking. Hence, one moment I/we may ‘Love’ someone and the next, ‘Hate’ them, all within a matter of seconds, depending on the trigger.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Neglect - How Long Is a Piece Of String?</image:title>
<image:caption>Featured in, 'Contrast' Magazine, Sept 2024. The title refers to a question, of which there is no known answer. Equally it could relate to my father’s personality of which there often weren't any known answers. Other than perhaps, my own belief that he suffered with PTSD, from service during WW2. Something so many must have suffered, without knowing or being supported and the neglect from those who sent them to war.</image:caption>

<image:title>Neglect - Darkness aka This Is the Way, Step Inside.</image:title>
<image:caption>Would you step into the darkness if invited? I doubt very much I would. And yet it may equally be safe, as unsafe. Darkness, an interesting concept in its many interpretations. As a kid I was frightened of the dark, being the youngest I was made to go to bed first. I would never close my eyes until someone else had come to bed. Nor would I sleep with my face to the wall, always facing out, just incase the bogey man came. Today the darkness I face, is that which resides in my own head. This is the way, Step Inside. Is a line from the song, Atrocity Exhibition by Joy Division</image:caption>

      <image:title>Neglect - Virus</image:title>
<image:caption>I liken living with mental health complexity as being either possessed or having a virus spreading throughout my body that I have no control of. As though something else is taking control of my actions in both thought and behaviour.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Neglect - The Power of Words</image:title>
<image:caption>No, was a familiar word that I heard repeatedly as a kid. My mother, through her own fear and bipolar, as well as me being the youngest of the siblings, she was overprotective and smothering. Of course, it wasn’t intentional, but it did have a detrimental impact and stunted my growth, as well as impede my need to establish autonomy, which I feel, I still haven't achieved today. Interestingly, when I was asked once to imagine a picture of my mother, a Python came to mind and we all know what they do, suffocate and smother their prey. But equally the idea of wrapping around a person could also suggest protection.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Neglect - Identity</image:title>
<image:caption>Many would recognise the identity of this silhouette within the image. The Deerstalker Hat and Pipe belonging to the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes. But our own identity and specifically my own may not be so clear, in fact others may recognise my identity before I do. Lack of a sense of self may well come about by a fragmentation or split in personality, because of childhood trauma. Even today, a lack of integration of the many facets to my identity/personality creates confusion and an uncomfortableness in simply being.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Neglect - Turn a Blind Eye</image:title>
<image:caption>Knots in wood are often referred to as ‘eyes’ but of course they can’t see (blind) Sometimes when something is too unpalatable or painful, we may ‘Turn a Blind Eye’ in the hope of not seeing, the seeable or hoping that it might go away and therefore saving us the need to take uncomfortable action. The same can also be true of abuse taking place within a family, by a family member. Others within the family may see it or be aware of it but choose to, Turn A Blind Eye.</image:caption>

<image:caption>‘Where were you when I was burned and broken While the days slipped by from my window watching Where were you when I was hurt and helpless Because the things you say and the things you do surround me…’ Words from the song, Coming Back to Life from the album, The Division Bell by Pink Floyd. <image:title>Neglect - Fault Line</image:title>
<image:caption>A play upon words. "Fault Line" captures both a geological concept—a fracture in the Earth's crust marking tectonic boundaries—and a metaphor for tracing responsibility or blame. The phrase demonstrates how language can convey depth through literal and figurative interpretations.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Neglect - Cutting Remarks</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m reminded of the children’s nursery rhyme ‘Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me’ Which is another childhood lie, words do hurt! The power of words and language can’t be under estimated and can be cutting, destructive, abusive and sometimes fatal.</image:caption>

<image:caption>‘I bring fresh showers for the thirsting flowers, From the seas and the streams; I bear light shade for the leaves when laid, In their noonday dreams. From my wings are shaken the dews that waken, The sweet buds every one, When rocked to rest on their mother's breast, As she dances about the sun. I wield the flail of the lashing hail, And whiten the green plains under, And then again I dissolve it in rain, And laugh as I pass in thunder.’ Verse from, The Cloud by Percy Bysshe Shelley</image:caption>

<image:caption>“Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day.” George Carlin on Religion Having been raised a catholic I always hesitate when people ask if I believe in God, so I guess that would make me an Agnostic rather than an Atheist or is my non committal a fear of being struck down for even suggesting such a thing? But if he/she does exist maybe he/she would take on the form of a cloud when making an appearance, Mystical, Magical and Beautiful.</image:caption>
